2027 Porsche 911 Manual Transmission Makes Return

Discover the return of the manual Porsche 911 to North America, including the 2027 Carrera S with MT Package and other three-pedal 911 models.

The Manual Porsche 911 Is Back: Three Pedals Return to North America

For driving enthusiasts, few things are as satisfying as the combination of a powerful engine, a perfectly balanced sports car and a manual transmission. Porsche has continued to preserve that experience in the 911—and now, the brand is bringing the three-pedal experience back to an even broader audience.

For the 2027 model year, the Porsche 911 Carrera S with MT Package is returning to the North American market with a six-speed manual transmission. The new model was announced in August 2026 in response to strong customer demand and represents an increasingly rare opportunity to experience a modern high-performance sports car with a traditional manual gearbox.

For enthusiasts searching for a new manual sports car, the 911 remains one of the most compelling choices available.

The 911 Carrera S Gets Its Manual Back

When the current 992.2-generation 911 Carrera S was introduced, it was initially offered exclusively with Porsche's eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.

That changes for 2027.

Porsche is introducing the 911 Carrera S with MT Package, featuring a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The model is being offered exclusively for North America and is available as both a Coupe and Cabriolet.

The return is particularly significant because Porsche says the decision was driven by customer demand.

The result is a 911 Carrera S designed for drivers who want to be more involved in every corner, acceleration and gear change.

What Is the 911 Carrera S with MT Package?

The 911 Carrera S with MT Package combines the performance of the Carrera S with a six-speed manual transmission and an enhanced collection of standard equipment.

The model produces 473 horsepower and sends power to the rear wheels through the manual gearbox. Porsche has also emphasized the model's analog driving character, with the MT Package designed to minimize additional weight while increasing standard performance-focused equipment.

The Carrera S with MT Package starts at $167,100 for the Coupe and $181,000 for the Cabriolet, excluding the $2,350 delivery, processing and handling fee. Porsche began accepting orders in August 2026, with deliveries expected to begin by the end of 2026.

Why Does the Manual Transmission Matter?

A modern automatic transmission can shift faster than a human driver. Porsche's PDK is a perfect example.

But speed isn't the only reason people drive a Porsche 911.

A manual transmission adds another layer of involvement between the driver and the car. The driver chooses when to shift, manages the clutch and feels the mechanical connection between the engine and the road.

For enthusiasts, that's the point.

The goal isn't necessarily to achieve the quickest possible 0-to-60-mph time. It's about making the journey more engaging.

That philosophy has helped keep the manual transmission alive in the Porsche 911 even as many performance vehicles have moved exclusively to automatic or dual-clutch transmissions.

The Porsche 911 Carrera T: The Purist's Choice

The Carrera S isn't the only manual 911 available.

The 911 Carrera T was introduced specifically with driving enthusiasts in mind and continues to offer a six-speed manual transmission as standard.

For 2027, the Carrera T produces 388 horsepower from its 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder boxer engine and sends that power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

The Carrera T reaches 60 mph in 4.3 seconds in Coupe form and has a top track speed of 183 mph.

The Cabriolet version is also available with the manual transmission, reaching 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and offering a top track speed of 182 mph.

The Carrera T takes a slightly different approach from the Carrera S. Rather than focusing simply on maximum power, Porsche emphasizes agility, lightweight construction and driver engagement.

Its standard equipment includes Porsche Active Suspension Management, Sport Chrono and a special manual gearshift lever finished with an open-pore walnut shift knob.

The result is a 911 designed to encourage its driver to take the long way home.

How Many Manual Porsche 911 Models Are Available?

The return of the Carrera S expands an already impressive selection of manual 911s.

Porsche says that, with the introduction of the new Carrera S with MT Package, seven 911 variants in North America are now offered with a conventional manual transmission. They span the Carrera T through some of the most performance-focused GT models in the 911 family.

Depending on model and configuration, enthusiasts can choose from manual-transmission 911s including:

  • 911 Carrera T Coupe

  • 911 Carrera T Cabriolet

  • 911 Carrera S with MT Package Coupe

  • 911 Carrera S with MT Package Cabriolet

  • 911 GT3

  • 911 GT3 with Touring Package

  • 911 GT3 RS-related manual configuration/model variants as specified by Porsche

Availability and configurations can vary by model year and production allocation, so customers should consult Porsche White Plains for current ordering and availability information.

Manual vs. PDK: Which Porsche 911 Is Right for You?

Choosing between the manual transmission and Porsche's PDK isn't really about which transmission is better.

It's about what you want from the driving experience.
